Terms and Conditions
Last updated: 7th November 2026
These are the terms you agree to by using Otterli. We've kept them in plain English wherever the law lets us.
The short version: use Otterli to plan your own meals, don't scrape it or break it, and check recipes against your own judgement. Searching and planning are free. Core is an optional paid membership: it starts with a free trial, renews until you cancel, and you can cancel any time in Settings.
1. Who we are, and what this covers
Otterli is a vegan recipe finder and weekly meal planner, run from the United Kingdom by Richard Kakengi. You can use it without an account, create a free account, or become a Core member.
You need to be 13 or over to use Otterli. To buy Core you need to be 18 or over, or have a parent or guardian's permission.
By using the site you accept these terms, wherever you're using it from. If you don't accept them, please don't use Otterli.
2. Acceptable use
You're welcome to search recipes, read our articles, save recipes, build weekly meal plans and grocery lists, and share or export them for your own use — personal or household. That's what it's for.
You agree not to:
- Use Otterli for unlawful purposes, or for anything that breaks local, national, or international law.
- Scrape, harvest, or bulk-copy our content or data without our permission.
- Interfere with how Otterli runs — introducing malicious software, overloading it, or otherwise disrupting the service for other people.
- Share your account, or try to get into anyone else's.
3. Recipes, content and links
Otterli's own content. Our own recipes, articles, and the site itself belong to Richard Kakengi. You may not copy, redistribute, or republish them without written consent.
Recipes from other sites. Third-party recipes belong to their creators. For those, Otterli shows a summary — the title, thumbnail, and ingredient list — so you can find them by what's in your kitchen, and links you to the creator's own site for the full recipe. If you're a creator and want a recipe removed, see our Sources page or email support@otterli.com.
Recipes you add or import. Recipes you add or import, and your notes on them, stay yours. You're responsible for having the right to add them. Imports from other websites are for your personal use only: the original recipe still belongs to its creator. We store what you add only to run your account.
Links to other sites. Otterli links out to recipe creators and other websites because they're relevant to you. We don't endorse or guarantee what you find there. Otterli has no affiliate links at the moment; if that changes, we'll update these terms first. Once you follow a link, you're on someone else's site, under their terms and privacy policy rather than ours.
4. Accounts and the Free plan
Without an account, your plan, pantry, and preferences are kept in an anonymous guest account tied to your browser. Creating an account lets you sign in on any device, with a one-time code we email you or with Google. Please keep access to that email address and your Google account secure, because they're how you sign in.
The Free plan has limits, such as how many recipes you can import and how many items your pantry holds. The current limits are shown in the app. We may change them, but if you're over a new limit, nothing you've saved is deleted: you can keep using and editing it, and you can't add more until you're back under the limit.
Inactive guest and Free accounts are deleted after a while, as set out in our Privacy Policy. You can delete your own account at any time in Settings → Password & Security.
5. Core membership and billing
What Core adds. Core removes the Free plan's limits and adds exporting your plan and grocery list, plus weekly recipe ideas matched to your kitchen. The plan screens show exactly what's included before you start.
Free trial. Core starts with a 14-day free trial. No payment is taken during the trial. We'll remind you 3 days before it ends, and if you cancel before then, you won't pay anything.
Who you're buying from. Payments are handled by Polar, which acts as our merchant of record: Polar sells you the subscription, takes payment, works out and collects any tax, and issues your receipts. Polar's own buyer terms also apply to the payment. We never see or store your card details.
Renewal. After the trial, Core renews automatically each month or each year, depending on the plan you chose, at the price shown when you subscribed, until you cancel. Prices are in US dollars.
Cancelling. You can cancel any time in Settings → Membership. Core stays active until the end of the period you've paid for, and then your account moves to the Free plan. Your saved recipes, plans, and pantry are kept, subject to the Free plan's limits in section 4.
Refunds. On the Annual and Launch Member plans, you can ask for a full refund within 60 days of being charged. On the Monthly plan, you can cancel any time, but there's no refund for the month you're in. Request a refund through the Polar customer portal, which you can open from Settings → Membership → Manage billing, or email support@otterli.com to ask for a refund.
Price changes. If we raise a price, we'll email you at least 30 days before your next renewal at the new price, so you have time to cancel first. The Launch Member price stays the same for as long as your Launch Member subscription stays active.
Failed payments. If a renewal payment fails and isn't fixed, your account moves to the Free plan. We'll email you, and you can update your payment details in Settings → Membership.
None of this affects your legal rights as a consumer.
6. What we can and can't promise
Otterli is provided "as is" and "as available". We build it carefully, but it's small, and we can't guarantee it will always be up, always be accurate, or always suit your circumstances.
Recipes and ingredient lists in particular are a starting point, not advice. Allergen and diet filters depend on how each recipe is labelled, and labels can be wrong or incomplete, so we can't guarantee that any recipe is free of any allergen. For full allergen information, contact the recipe's original creator, and check labels and ingredients yourself if you have allergies, intolerances, or specific dietary needs — you know your own situation and we don't.
To the fullest extent the law allows, we're not liable for loss or damage arising from:
- Your use of Otterli, or your being unable to use it.
- Inaccuracies, errors, or omissions in the content.
- Anything that happens on a third-party site you reached through a link here.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't legally be limited — including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud — and none of it affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
7. Suspending or ending your use
You can stop using Otterli, cancel Core, or delete your account at any time. Deleting your account also cancels your Core subscription.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, for example by scraping the site or misusing someone else's account. We may also change or stop offering features. If we stop offering Core altogether, we'll refund the unused part of any period you've already paid for.
8. Privacy
If you create an account, we hold your email address and the details you choose to add. Polar holds your billing details if you start a trial or subscribe. Analytics cookies are set only if you accept them.
The full picture is in our Privacy Policy, with every cookie and storage item listed by name in our Cookie Policy.
9. Intellectual property
Otterli and its own content are the intellectual property of Richard Kakengi. Third-party recipes, and recipes you add yourself, are covered in section 3. You may not reproduce, distribute, or exploit Otterli's content commercially without prior written permission.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Changes take effect once they're posted here, and the date at the top of this page will tell you when that was. If a change materially affects Core members, we'll email you before it takes effect. Continuing to use Otterli after a change means you accept the updated terms.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and disputes about them are for the courts of England and Wales. If you're a consumer resident elsewhere, this doesn't take away any right you have to bring proceedings in your own country.
